1. Sight-seeing souls...
A must see when visiting Kuala Lumpur is the Batu Caves (pictured above). The site is a 400 million-year old limestone hill comprising three major caves and a number of smaller ones. The 100-year-old temple features idols and statues erected inside the main caves and around it and is considered an important religious landmark by Hindus.
For those of you with children in tow, the city’s aquarium is sure to keep them occupied. At 5000sqft, Aquaria KLCC is said to be largest aquarium in the world. Home to over 150 species of marine life, its star attractions include scary tiger sharks, lethal sea snakes, blue rays, bright coral fish, seahorses and more. Walk through a 90m walk-through tunnel to get a sense of life under water or visit the DNA Touch Pool where you can pick up and feel the texture of live corals and star fish – it definitely beats the local sea life centre
2. The mouth-watering cuisine...
Foodies looking to sample the local cuisine should head straight to Jalan Alor, one of the most famous roads in Kuala Lumpur for food. Located just behind Jalan Bukit Bintang and a short walk away from Changkat Bukit Bintang, it is a favourite after-clubbing dining spot in the Golden Triangle area.
The variety of food available in the area is amazing with barbecued meats, noodles and desserts the most popular. Inexpensive ‘Malaysian style hawker food’ stalls line the streets next to air-conditioned seafood restaurants with bright signage and an electric atmosphere – all offering their own vibrant flavours to contribute to the cities food scene.
3. For The Adventurous Types...Adventure is all around you in Malaysia and Kuala Lumper is a great place to have as your base for exciting outdoor activities and trips. Thrill seekers can spend the day out of the city climbing the Batu caves or enjoying a wilderness tour in Malaysian rain forests and to magnificent waterfalls. Tubing tours, jungle river treks and hiking can be easily arranged with a number of specialist tour companies and you can organise a tour so that after your adventure you’re back in the city by nightfall.
Any trip to Kuala Lumper can be combined with an extension to the magical world of Borneo – a visit the famous orangutan will make any visit to Malaysia complete!
